One of the most effective things about jiu-jitsu is our ability to get the fight to the ground. And one particular techniuque I LOVE is the is highly effective in Jiu-Jitsu is the Tani Otoshi. But what exactly is Tani Otoshi and why is it so helpful in Jiu-Jitsu?

What is Tani Otoshi?

Tani Otoshi, which translates to "Valley Drop" in Japanese, is a throwing technique commonly used in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu. It involves off-balancing your opponent by pulling them forward and then swiftly dropping them to the ground using your leg as a lever. This technique requires precise timing and execution to be successful.

Why is Tani Otoshi Helpful in Jiu-Jitsu?

One of the main reasons why Tani Otoshi is so beneficial in Jiu-Jitsu is its effectiveness in taking down opponents of varying sizes. This technique relies on leverage and timing rather than brute strength, making it a valuable skill for practitioners of all body types.
